Cornary Artery Disease is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States and in Lancaster County. More than one of every five people in the United States has cardiovascular disease. Annually, 1.5 million Americans experience a heart attack (myocardial infarction).
The Program
Ephrata Community Hospital offers a comprehensive three-phase Cardiac Rehabilitation program. During Phase I a Cardiac Rehab staff member visits with the patient while he or she is in the hospital and provides information about the program. Phases II and III are offered as an outpatient program.
Services Include:
- Patient and family education
- Individualized, prescribed exercise sessions with constant cardiac monitoring
- Dietary consultation and class
- Smoking Cessation
- Maintenance and follow-up programs
- Social events throughout the year
- Stress management class
The Staff
The Cardiac Rehab Department is staffed by Registered Nurses who maintain ACLS (Advanced Life Support) Certification. The department is also supported by a number of dedicated volunteers, some whom are former patients.
Support Group
Happy Hearts meets on a regular basis to provide education, support and socialization for people with heart-related problems and their families.
